Writing & Publishing

Need help getting published? This guide has resources to help you create a poster or manuscript.

Why cover letters?

The Cover Letter sells your manuscript -- it might be the only thing that gets read -- the managing editor might decide whether or not to read your manuscript, based on your cover letter.  How should your write your cover letter?

  • Include the Editor-in-Chief's name (get from the journal website)
  • Be sure to give your manuscript title and the journal you are submitting to
  • Note any conflicts of interest (or declare that the authors have no COI)
  • Include corresponding author's email

These 2 sentences should be in all cover letters:

  • We confirm that this manuscript has not been published elsewhere and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • All authors have approved the manuscript and agree with its submission to [insert the name of the target journal].
