Scholarly Communication cycle

Researchers often publish preliminary information at a conference - as a poster or podium presentation. This may be included in a journal supplementary issue as an abstract.  Many times, nothing further is published.

You may wish to present a poster or presentation, then write a manuscript to submit to a journal.  Most journals will accept a manuscript if a preliminary version has been presented at a conference. Check the journal's Guide for Authors to be certain.
