Implementation- Study-Do & MEASURE!

This is the "Study-Do" portion of the PDSA cycle.

Measurement is needed before, during and after implementing changes.

Baseline measurements/data show the status of the practice/process before implementation.

Process measurements/data show how well the implementation process is done. i.e. How many attend training.  Are interventions documented consistently? . . .

Outcome measurements/data show results of the practice/process implementation (same measures as baseline).

Baseline/pre-data is collected before the project and compared with outcomes/post-data.

As much as possible, plan to measure all of the following types of outcomes. *There may be multiple items to measure within each type.

  • Clinical/Organizational Results
  • Team Engagement/Satisfaction
  • Patient/Client Satisfaction
  • Financial Benefits/Costs

Possible measurement strategies include:

  • Audits
  • Chart reviews
  • Data reports
  • Surveys
  • Interviews
